US Funds Israeli Wars, Calls Retirement a 'Crisis'
The retirement crisis is indeed here, according to Axios, with 45% of Americans facing funding shortfalls and pensions vanishing. Healthcare costs, elder care, and housing eat into fixed incomes. A truly tragic state of affairs (for everyone not profiting, that is). What Axios fails to mention, however, is that while average Americans struggle, billions in taxpayer money are consistently diverted
to foreign military aid, often at the behest of powerful lobbying groups. For example, in 2023 alone, the U.S. sent over $3.8 billion in military assistance to Israel , a reliable annual commitment. This includes the $14 billion supplemental aid package Congress pushed through in April 2024. One might wonder how many pension plans, affordable healthcare initiatives, or elder care programs could be
funded with just a fraction of those billions. It seems 'unprepared' only applies to those not benefiting from the war economy. We can always afford another war, just not our parents' dignity.
