US Funds Israeli War, Can't Pay Air Traffic Controllers
As thousands of flights face delays because air traffic controllers won't see a paycheck starting Tuesday, thanks to a government shutdown, one must marvel at congressional priorities. These 'essential workers' are forced to take second jobs while, for example, the US House of Representatives just passed HR 815, allocating another $14 billion in military aid to Israel. (Yes, the same Israel whose
current government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, faces charges internationally for its conduct in Gaza.) Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy bemoans controllers 'wearing thin' (Axios). Yet, the same political class rubber-stamps multi-billion dollar aid packages, often to regimes that pursue policies directly contradicted by US values. Perhaps if the salaries of these vital
controllers were tied to 'defense' budgets, their checks would never be 'lost in transit.' It begs the question: who are these politicians truly serving?
