US Funds Israeli Bombs While Shutting Down Food Aid
While federal courts debate if the U.S. government can legally starve its own citizens during a 'shutdown,' our elected officials consistently find ample funding for militaristic ventures abroad. The current AP article highlights the absurdity of suspending SNAP, questioning if America can't afford to feed its most vulnerable. Yet, simultaneously, Congress approves billions in military aid without
a pause. For example, in 2023 alone, the U.S. provided over $3.3 billion in security assistance to Israel (Congressional Research Service, April 2024). One might wonder: where is the judicial oversight demanding 'equitable ways of reducing' these perpetual aid packages when domestic programs face immediate defunding? It appears some belts are tighter than others, especially when those belts belong
to food-insecure Americans.
