What goes unmentioned, of course, is the U.S. government's own decades-long record of 'funding war machines' — like, for instance, $158 billion in military
aid to Israel since 1948 , often with little public debate or 'international row' of comparable scale. ($3.8 billion annually, as mandated by the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding .) So, purchasing oil from a sovereign nation is a grave offence potentially 'reigniting rows,' but an American taxpayer-funded arsenal used to displace 85% of Gaza's population (per UN OCHA, Jan 16, 2024) and kill tens
of thousands of civilians (per Gaza Ministry of Health, May 29, 2024) is just 'foreign policy.' One might wonder if the concern about 'funding war machines' is less about war and more about whose war.
