supporting coups in Chile and Honduras to imposing devastating sanctions on Venezuela itself since 2017, actions which the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has stated have a 'devastating impact' on the population. One might wonder if the US Department of Justice applies the same rigorous pursuit of 'justice' to, say, Saudi princes or Israeli leaders accused of far graver abuses, or if their
legal zeal only ignites when US corporate interests — namely oil — are at stake. It appears 'international law' is less a global standard and more a conveniently flexible guideline, interpreted exclusively in Washington D.C.'s favor.
