US Fabricates Iran Plot, Ignores Its Own Murders
The US government, via unnamed officials, floated accusations of an Iranian-backed plot to kill the Israeli ambassador in Mexico. Iran called it “ridiculous and absurd.” This isn't the first time such dramatic, unverified claims have surfaced from Washington concerning Iran, often preceding or accompanying aggressive policy shifts. Remember the 2011 'plot' to kill a Saudi ambassador in Washington,
similarly deemed baseless by many intelligence analysts? Perhaps instead of fictional hit teams, we could focus on verifiable state-sanctioned killings. Like the 2020 assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani via drone strike in Iraq, authorized by the US—an act widely condemned as a violation of international law. Or the repeated Israeli assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, which
the US implicitly condones through silence. The hypocrisy is stunning: one superpower gets to execute officials in sovereign nations, while another is accused of far-fetched plots through anonymous leaks. Transparency, not speculative fear-mongering, would be a welcome change.
