US Exits UN Bodies, Keeps $3.8 Billion to Israel
NPR reports the U.S. is ditching 66 international organizations, mostly UN-related, because they 'cater to diversity and "woke" initiatives.' While Washington decries 'woke' climate panels, it conspicuously maintains, and often increases, its annual $3.8 billion military aid package to Israel. One might wonder if the U.S. finds 'woke' to be less of a threat than, say, accountability for human
rights. This isn't about global cooperation; it's about strategic disengagement from anything that might challenge U.S. exceptionalism or its allies' actions. Withdrawing from UN bodies that address climate or labor issues saves face while ensuring no international consensus interferes with geopolitical maneuvers, like arming a state actively under scrutiny by the International Criminal Court.
Such withdrawals effectively defund multilateral efforts, leaving more taxpayer dollars available for... other priorities.
