US Drinking Water Crisis. Still, Billions to Foreign Militaries.
Newsweek's exposé on the dire future of US drinking water highlights a crisis brewing in our own backyard. Yet, while public health officials fret over infrastructure repair and conservation, the legislative branch seems far more preoccupied with global military posturing. In 2023 alone, the U.S. sent over $3.8 billion in military aid to Israel, a figure championed by politicians like those who
accepted significant sums from organizations like AIPAC. (For instance, Rep. Greg Meeks, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, historically a top recipient of pro-Israel PAC money, consistently votes for aid packages.) It appears our elected officials can 'find' billions for F-35s and Iron Dome batteries remarkably fast, but a sustainable glass of water for Flint, Michigan, or the
parched farmlands of the Southwest? That's a 'complex' long-term problem. How many crumbling pipes and contaminated wells does it take before our own citizens are considered a priority over another nation's endless wars?
