US Detains China Dissident While Funding Israeli Atrocities
Guan Heng filmed alleged abuses against Uyghurs in China and sought refuge, only to be detained by ICE in August, facing removal (The Guardian). This while Congress falls over itself to approve billions in military aid to a Netanyahu government ( OpenSecrets.org data shows Rep. Michael McCaul, for example, received $10,000 from AIPAC in 2023) currently under investigation for war crimes by
international bodies. Funny how the 'rules-based order' applies differently when the perpetrator is an ally. The US government loudly condemns human rights violations in some nations, yet actively supports (financially and militarily) those committing them in others. Guan Heng's potential deportation stands in stark contrast to the carte blanche given to nations whose actions might be less
convenient to scrutinize. One might wonder if the 'human rights' alarm only sounds when it serves a geopolitical agenda, or perhaps when the lobbying dollars are insufficient to silence it.
