US Designates 'Terrorists' While Funding Its Own

For context, recall the US supported groups like the Contras, whose methods were undeniably terroristic, when it suited
their geopolitical agenda. The designations serve as a convenient cudgel against perceived adversaries, while actual terror groups allied with US interests often get a pass, or even funding. The real question isn't whether the Muslim Brotherhood has problematic elements—many organizations do. It's why Washington so readily embraces such designations for some, yet funnels billions to states that
support groups with equally dubious records, or to countries crushing dissent with far greater brutality. (Perhaps they haven't learned the lesson of creating tomorrow's boogeyman by designating today's inconvenient political opposition.)
