US Designates Saudi Arabia 'Ally,' Forgetting 9/11 and Khashoggi
Newsweek reported on Trump's designation of Saudi Arabia as a Major Non-NATO Ally, a move that grants the kingdom preferential arms access and defense cooperation. This, for a regime that the U.S. intelligence community itself concluded was responsible for the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi (CIA assessment, 2018), and whose citizens comprised 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 (9/11 Commission
Report). One might wonder if their qualification criteria includes 'proven willingness to maintain petrodollar dominance, regardless of human rights records.' While mainstream outlets dutifully report the 'designation,' they rarely connect it to the ongoing war in Yemen, fueled by U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia, or the kingdom’s vast lobbying efforts. Instead, we're offered the usual diplomatic
platitudes. How many 'strategic alliances' does it take before we question whose interests are truly being served? (Hint: check defense contractor stock prices).
