US Deporting Emmy-Winning Journalist to Escapees' Paradise, El Salvador
Good news, everyone! After 100 days of detainment, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is graciously releasing Emmy-winning Salvadorian journalist Mario Guevara from custody. The slightly less good news? They're deporting him to El Salvador, the very country he fled in 2004 to escape left-wing militias. Apparently, 20 years in Atlanta, a valid work permit, and two American citizen children
aren't enough to prevent our government from handing him a one-way ticket, especially after he dared to cover a 'No Kings Day' protest. Meanwhile, our very own Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, with her history of promoting literal white supremacy and QAnon conspiracies, still enjoys her full congressional privileges without so much as a stern talking-to. Because who needs inconvenient truths about
protests when you can just eliminate the messengers? It's much simpler to manage the narrative when the person holding the microphone is suddenly 'managing' their own deportation. One has to wonder, is this how we bolster 'democracy' now? By ensuring that critical voices are not just silenced, but actively exiled, all while politicians spew outright falsehoods undeterred. 'land of the free' only applies if you're not actually using that freedom to report on anything important.
