US Demands Cleaner Air, But Only North of the Border
The mainstream media discovers that a "US manufacturing hub in Mexico" is creating a "massive air pollution crisis." They note factories from around the world, including the US, export "largely to the US." What they don't quite connect is the historical pattern: wealthy nations have a long, storied tradition of outsourcing their environmental destruction and labor exploitation to less powerful
countries, all in the name of 'economic growth' and 'consumer choice.' This isn't an accident; it's a feature of our globalized supply chains. American consumers get their goods, corporations boost their profits, and the cost of pollution is borne by communities thousands of miles away. One might wonder if the US government, so keen on 'human rights' abroad, will be dispatching aid packages of air
purifiers and medical teams to Monterrey, or if their concern for 'toxic heavy metals' stops at the Rio Grande. Apparently, 'critical supply chains' are more important than critical lung function when there are profits to be made.
