US Defends Somaliland Recognition, Forgets Gaza Recognition

The New Arab reports the US actively defended Israel's 'recognition' of Somaliland at the UN, with Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood comparing it to nations recognizing Palestine. This, from the same State Department that sanctions the International Criminal Court for investigating Israeli officials and vehemently opposes Palestinian statehood at every turn. Apparently, some 'recognitions' are more

equal than others when they serve the geopolitical chess game. One might logically ask if the US understands the irony of championing a separatist entity's 'sovereignty' while simultaneously denying it to nearly 140 UN member states who recognize State of Palestine. It appears 'self-determination' is a principle, not a right, selectively applied based on which ally is doing the dividing and

conquering. The real recognition the US wants is of its own hypocrisy as strategic policy.
