The optics of the 'land of the free' demanding papers from Africans trying to facilitate refuge for those who largely supported apartheid—while reportedly skirting South African
labor laws—are truly stunning. One might question why the global superpower needs 'illegal workers' when its own coffers are bursting with taxpayer funds. Perhaps the US views 'illegal' status as a feature, not a bug, in its labor force, mirroring its own historical exploitation. It’s hard to ignore this hypocritical concern for legality when the US routinely ignores international law regarding
