China is 'accusing' the US of 'double standards' regarding tariff threats, as reported by the BBC. This isn't news; it's a statement of the bleeding obvious. Washington, DC, frequently lectures the world on 'free markets' and 'fair trade' while simultaneously wielding economic sanctions against dozens of countries – Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, Syria, and Russia, to name a few – effectively crippling
their economies. One might almost think the 'rules-based international order' only applies when the US is making the rules. The hypocrisy would be hilarious if it wasn't so economically devastating for millions globally. When America does it, it's 'national security'; when anyone else even considers it, it's 'unfair trade practices' or 'subverting democracy.' At what point does the media stop
framing these complaints as 'accusations' and start calling them accurate observations?
