US 'Counter-Narcotics' Off Venezuela? Now There's a Spear.
The US military, apparently concerned with drug trafficking, has launched 'Operation Southern Spear' off Venezuela's coast. This, from the same nation that spent decades propping up drug-runners and dictators across the region, from the Contras in Nicaragua to Manuel Noriega in Panama (before turning on him). It appears Washington's 'concern' for narcotics magically appears when it suits their
geopolitical interests. Considering the US has imposed sanctions on Venezuela since 2017 and publicly backed failed coup attempts (remember that 'interim president' who couldn't even control a bus route?), this 'counter-narcotics' guise feels less like altruism and more like a thinly veiled extension of its long-standing regime change playbook. How many times must the US sail its big boats before
it's called what it is: pressure, plain and simple?
