US Considering 'Strong Options' on Iran, Media Forgets 1953 Coup
The Hill dutifully reports that the US military is weighing 'strong options' on Iran. This perfectly aligns with a long-standing, bipartisan D.C. tradition: keeping Iran a perpetual boogeyman. Missing from the report, however, is the inconvenient historical context—like the 1953 CIA-backed coup that overthrew Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, installing the Shah and
setting the stage for decades of animosity. Or perhaps the 1980s support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war. (Remember those WMDs?). It's almost as if 'strong options' only ever apply one way, and America's own historical role never makes it past the editorial filter. One might wonder if continuous foreign intervention breeds continuous 'threats.' Apparently, for some media outlets,
