providing $14.1 billion in security assistance to Israel—funds used to decimate the very schools these children once attended. One might wonder how many UNRWA schools, hit by airstrikes and designated as safe zones, could have been rebuilt with just a fraction of that $14.1 billion. The U.S. government expresses concern for Palestinian children's education while simultaneously aiding the
destruction of every university in Gaza (CNN, January 2024). It’s not just about restoring education; it’s about stopping the active demolition of it. The hope Al Jazeera speaks of can't take root in rubble, especially when that rubble is bought and paid for by congressional votes right here in Washington.
