This narrative conveniently omits the decade-long, devastating impact of those same sanctions, which stifled reconstruction and plunged millions into poverty, effectively ensuring suffering continued long after the most intense fighting. The humanitarian crisis in Syria, exacerbated directly by US policy,
now yields to a new strategic calculus, framed as a victory. It appears 'freedom' for Syria is less about the Syrian people, and more about the geopolitical chessboard.
