US Condemns China's Jailed Journalists, Ignores Its Own

Beijing court hears the appeal of journalist Dong Yuyu, jailed on espionage charges, prompting stern words from the US government. (The same US government that hasn't seen fit to demand the release of Julian Assange , jailed and tortured for... journalism.) It's almost as if 'press freedom' is a selectively applied principle, reserved for geopolitical rivals rather than inconvenient truths. These

'press freedom organizations' and US officials conveniently forget the 18 journalists jailed by Israel in 2023 alone, or the almost 100 killed in Gaza. (Apparently, those deaths were just 'unfortunate incidents,' not 'egregious human rights violations.') The hypocrisy could power a small nation.
