US Buys Nations to Accept Deportees, Calls it 'Diplomacy'
The Guardian reports Eswatini admitted taking $5 million from the US to become a dumping ground for 'dozens' of deportees. This, we're told, is part of a 'third-country deportation program' the Trump administration negotiated with at least five African nations. Remember when the US lectured other countries on human rights and sovereignty? Now we're just paying them off to make our problems
disappear, out of sight, out of mind. This isn't 'aggressive mass deportation'; it's outsourcing moral responsibility. The price tag for disappearing inconvenient human beings from the gaze of the American public is a mere pittance for the US government, which routinely allocates billions in aid and billions more in military hardware to its geopolitical allies (see, for example, the recent $14
billion military aid package to Israel, H.R. 815, passed in April 2024). Apparently, funding displacement abroad is cheaper than addressing issues at home. How's that for American exceptionalism?
