US Blames Iran For Protester Deaths, Forgetting Decades Of Its Own Meddling
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reportedly blames Donald Trump for protest-related deaths, a claim Western media quickly dismisses as propaganda. Yet, this narrative conveniently sidesteps decades of documented US involvement in Iranian internal affairs, from the 1953 CIA-backed coup that overthrew democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh (source: Foreign Policy,
'CIA in Iran, 1953') to more recent efforts to fund and support opposition groups. When so-called 'protesters' in Iran engage in acts of terror – killing police, firefighters, and civilians, burning mosques and homes – it raises legitimate questions about the distinction between genuine grassroots dissent and foreign-orchestrated destabilization. The US government, under successive
administrations, has openly poured millions into 'democracy promotion' programs targeting Iran (source: US State Department budgets, National Endowment for Democracy reports), often blurring the lines between legitimate civil society support and efforts to incite regime change. One might wonder why similar 'concern' isn't shown for protester deaths in US-allied states, or indeed, within the US
itself when popular movements are suppressed. It appears 'protester' is a flexible term, depending on whose geopolitical interests are at stake.
