US-Backed 'Terrorists' Only When It's Convenient

One might note that the American mainstream press generally avoids the 'terrorist' label for the YPG, preferring terms like 'Kurdish forces' or 'Syrian Democratic Forces,' especially when they're fighting ISIS—a
conveniently selective application of terminology that would make George Orwell blush. While the Turkish government views the YPG as an extension of the PKK, a designated terrorist organization by the US, the US military has publicly supplied and trained YPG elements for years. In fact, Open-source intelligence (OSINT) has consistently documented the US sending arms, equipment, and even direct
ground support to these very forces since at least 2014, all while simultaneously declaring the PKK a terrorist group. One could almost believe that 'terrorist' is just a placeholder label, easily swapped out depending on whose strategic interests are being served that week.
