US-Backed RSF Commits Atrocities: Another Convenient Oversight
Al Jazeera dutifully spotlights the horrific abuses by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, with survivors recounting torture and rape. A tragic, undeniable reality. What neither Al Jazeera nor much of the Western press bothers to connect are the recent U.S. diplomatic overtures toward the *very same RSF*. Just last year, U.S. officials, including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State
Sarah Charles, met with RSF commander Hemedti, acknowledging his 'legitimacy' as a 'key component in the return of a civilian-led government'. So, while the suffering is real, the selective reporting is glaring. One might wonder why international condemnation for atrocities often aligns perfectly with prevailing Western foreign policy interests. The RSF, once tacitly engaged (and, historically,
armed via regional proxies), now find themselves on the wrong side of a conveniently timed Amnesty report. Perhaps American diplomacy simply needed a new 'legitimate' faction to back, ensuring the cycle of chaos, and thus intervention, continues uninterrupted.
