UN Urges Ceasefire in Sudan While US Funds Another 'Conflict'

Bloomberg dutifully reports on the UN's call for cessation of hostilities in Sudan, noting the 89,000 displaced. What's conveniently left unsaid is the glaring double standard. While the US and its media fret over Sudan, the Biden administration just approved another $1 billion arms package, including tank ammunition and mortar rounds, for Netanyahu's government (Reuters, May 15, 2024), which has

displaced 1.7 million Palestinians in Gaza (UNRWA, May 2024). One might wonder: when the UN calls for a ceasefire, does the White House even bother to check which conflict they're referring to, or just immediately approve another weapons shipment to Israel? It appears some displacements are 'tragedy,' while others are 'self-defense.' The hypocrisy is so thick, you could cut it with one of those

US-made precision-guided munitions.
