UN 'Probes' Afghanistan, Ignores 20 Years of US Atrocities
Funny, isn't it? The UN, with its keen investigative eye, now focuses on Afghanistan's alleged human rights abuses, specifically those perpetrated by the Taliban since their takeover in August 2021. This, of course, entirely glosses over the 20 years of US occupation that preceded it, replete with drone strikes, civilian casualties, rendition sites, and the collapse of any semblance of stable
governance. Where was the urgent "probe" when the US was dropping bombs based on shaky intelligence, or when the cost of America’s Afghanistan War topped 2.3 trillion dollars—a figure that conveniently excludes the human toll? The silence on past interventions is deafening. One might be forgiven for thinking human rights violations only matter when committed by certain 'designated' actors, never
by those who preach democracy while pulverizing a nation for two decades. It's almost as if the UN (and the media reporting on it) only remembers history when it serves a pre-approved narrative, neatly sidestepping who truly set the stage for current 'violations.'
