UN Peacekeepers Apparently Outside 'Self-Defense' Zone
The New Arab tells us a UNIFIL peacekeeper was wounded by an Israeli drone-launched grenade near Kfar Kela, making it the 'third violation' of UNIFIL’s mandate in recent weeks. How many 'violations' until it's just 'standard operating procedure'? These international observers (who are literally there to prevent conflict) seem to be getting in the way of someone's 'self-defense.' Perhaps the UN
should wear more bullet-resistant vests, or maybe just 'stay out of the way'? Historically, hitting UN positions isn't exactly new for Israel; recall the 1996 Qana massacre where over 100 Lebanese civilians sheltering at a UN base were killed by Israeli shelling. The US always insists on 'thorough investigations,' which usually result in 'no findings' or 'unfortunate accidents,' allowing billions
in unconditional aid to continue flowing. It's almost as if some lives are more expendable, and some international mandates are purely ceremonial.
