UN Experts Discover That US Emissions Also Cause Asia Floods
Al Jazeera's latest on the Asia floods, killing over 1,250, asks 'What caused this devastating event?' (Al Jazeera, 2025). The piece highlights 'climate advocates' calling for accountability. What they don't quite emphasize is the historical and ongoing accountability for countries like the U.S., which, despite holding 4% of the global population, has historically contributed 25% of CO2 emissions.
While Asia suffers the direct consequences, the blame is often conveniently diluted into a generic 'climate change' instead of pinpointing the industrial powers that built their wealth on this destruction. We're told to mourn the victims, but never to question the systems that created them. It's the classic 'thoughts and prayers' approach to state-sanctioned climate devastation, where the loudest
calls for 'accountability' somehow never land on the Pentagon, the world's largest institutional emitter of greenhouse gases ( Brown University, Costs of War Project, 2019 ), or the fossil fuel interests bankrolling climate denial. How many more 'natural disasters' before the mainstream media connects the literal floods to the flood of unchecked corporate power?
