The US, however, frames its latest 'deal' as a triumphant diplomatic effort, despite also approving millions in new arms sales to Israel just last week – conveniently omitted from 'truce' discussions. One might wonder: how
many 'truce' plans can be discussed while the UN's own special rapporteur explicitly calls the situation 'genocide'? The constant hand-wringing over temporary ceasefires while simultaneously ignoring the UN's own condemnation is a masterclass in performative diplomacy. It appears the international community is perfectly fine with pausing the violence, just not ending it.
