UN Approves US 'Peace Plan' After Years of Arming Conflict
The UN Security Council, after an impressive 238 days of watching Gaza reduced to rubble, has finally 'approved' a US-led ceasefire resolution. (Apparently, 'urgent' is a flexible term when it doesn't involve oil prices). This comes after the Biden administration approved 100 separate arms sales to Israel since October 7, including 2,000-pound bombs that decimated civilian areas. One might wonder,
how many cluster munitions does it take to 'encourage' a peace plan? This 'US Gaza plan' marks a peculiar shift, as the same Security Council, where the US wields veto power, has repeatedly blocked resolutions calling for (gasp!) an actual ceasefire without caveats. It’s almost as if the architects of the conflict were suddenly tasked with drawing up the blueprints for peace. The irony, as always,
is lost on those applauding the spectacle.
