UN Alarms Over Sudan, Ignores Its Own 'Calls' on Gaza
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres courageously 'appeals' for an immediate truce in Sudan. This follows countless UN resolutions and appeals concerning Gaza, including UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which demanded an immediate ceasefire. Yet, somehow, the 'unimaginable suffering' in Gaza seems to register differently on the international crisis meter. One might wonder if the UN’s moral
outrage is calibrated to the geopolitical inconvenience of the aggressor. While Sudan's plight demands attention, the blatant double standard for Gaza exposes the UN's appeals as often performative. How many UN appeals equal one actual ceasefire when a US veto or unlimited US aid package is thrown into the scales? It appears 'unimaginable suffering' only truly becomes 'unimaginable' when it
doesn't involve a key American ally. (The silence, as they say, is deafening, or perhaps just strategically targeted.)
