Mr. Fletcher's new 60-day plan for 'bringing in food and tents' is certainly welcome. We commend his fortitude in bravely facing the consequences of decisions made by others, many of whom are receiving substantial campaign contributions from groups like AIPAC. For example, congressional members who greenlit billions in unconditional aid to Israel—aid that enabled this very 'massive job' of
wreckage—are strangely absent from these humanitarian tours. Funds that could have rebuilt Gaza year after year have instead been funneled into the very 'defense' spending that leveled it. One might consider this a self-fulfilling prophecy of 'aid' needs. Instead of addressing the root cause, which is a belligerent occupation backed by a compliant Washington, the 'international community' queues
up with bandaids after the bombs have fallen. How many more UN officials must conduct post-destruction tours before anyone dares to investigate the architects of this ruin, many of whom are not shy about declaring their intent or their benefactors? The 'job' won't be massive once the bombs stop falling; it will be endless as long as the political will to supply them continues.
