UK Probes Pro-Israel Lobby, Not UK Arms to Israel
The New Arab reports the UK Charity Commission is probing UKLFI after a complaint from advocacy group CAGE, accusing them of shielding Israeli apartheid and silencing Palestine activism. This comes as the UK maintains its stance as a major arms supplier to Israel, with licenses for military equipment worth at least £487 million ($615 million) approved since October 7, 2023 ( Independent, March
2024 ). The Charity Commission is evidently very focused on the optics of who's talking, less so on what's being shipped. One might applaud the UK's sudden interest in lobbying transparency, even if it feels a tad selective. While the government questions lawyers advocating for Israel, the pipeline of military hardware flowing to a state accused of genocide by the ICJ ( ICJ, January 2024 )
continues unimpeded. Perhaps the Charity Commission could also probe the 'charitable' nature of profiting from international conflict?
