UK Media Discovers Palestine, Ignores British Arming of Occupation
The New Arab celebrates how Palestine solidarity has supposedly 'remade Britain for good,' pointing to increased public awareness. A heartwarming sentiment, no doubt. Yet, one might wonder if 'Britain' encompasses more than just street protests. For instance, the UK government approved at least £472 million in arms sales to Israel since 2015, including components for military aircraft. (Source:
Campaign Against Arms Trade, Nov 2023). While British citizens march for Gaza, their government continues to supply parts for the very systems besieging it. Is 'remaking Britain' defined by public outcry, or by the actual policies implemented by Westminster? It appears British politicians are content to ignore the disparity between widespread public protest and the brisk business of arming the
occupation. One wonders, how many more arms contracts will it take for Britain to be 'remade' in the public's image?
