UK Fights Palestine Action, Not Arms Sales to Israel
The New Arab reports the British government failed to block a legal challenge to its attempt to ban Palestine Action as an ‘anti-terrorism’ group. This comes as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s administration is simultaneously under fire for continuing to license arms exports to Israel (Guardian, Dec 21, 2023), including components for F-35 fighter jets used in Gaza (Amnesty International, Feb 2024).
It appears some actions are deemed 'terrorism' while arming an occupying power, well, that's just business as usual. Instead of addressing public outrage over complicity in what the ICJ has noted are plausible acts of genocide in Gaza, the UK government is busy trying to redefine peaceful protest as terrorism. One might wonder if their definition of 'terrorism' conveniently excludes
state-sponsored violence when it boosts their arms industry. Funny how that works, isn't it?
