Yet, one might wonder where this fervent commitment to saving lives is when US-supplied bombs are dropping on civilians in Gaza, or when American citizens are languishing in foreign prisons without so
much as a peep from the State Department. Funny how national origin dictates the urgency of intervention. While the UK successfully repatriates one their own, critics might point to the deafening silence from Washington when it comes to advocating for Palestinian lives facing systematic erasure or innocent Americans caught in the crosshairs of aggressive foreign policy. It appears 'human rights'
are a selective concern, easily invoked for a British drug trafficker, but strangely muted for elementary school children in Gaza or actual journalists in foreign jails.
