Perhaps it's just selective memory, like forgetting that British financial institutions, for instance, have long served as conduits for global
capital, much of it quite 'foreign.' The sheer chutzpah of a nation, whose own financial and political landscape is intricately woven with global interests – from opaque offshore trusts to vast Qatari property holdings, not to mention the historical reach of its own colonial influence – suddenly discovering the 'threat' of foreign influence. It reminds one of a certain pot-kettle dynamic, albeit
