But what they miss is the historical echo. This isn't just 'irresponsible'—it's a direct
continuation of a colonial pattern where resource-rich nations exploit others, only now, the 'resource' is garbage. For decades, Western nations 'recycled' their plastic by shipping it off, mostly to China, until China wisely said 'no thanks' in 2018. The problem didn't vanish; it simply migrated to Vietnam, Thailand, and now increasingly Malaysia and Indonesia. Instead of investing in proper
domestic recycling infrastructure or, wilder still, reducing plastic production, the UK (and many others) opts for the cheapest, dirtiest escape. How many 'green' narratives can one landfill-bound shipping container undermine? Apparently, quite a few.
