Turkey Warns Against Intervention... Just Like US Warned Against Intervention in Iraq?
The New Arab reports Turkey's warning against 'foreign intervention' in Iran, citing concerns that 'Iran’s rivals' are manipulating protests. A noble sentiment, perhaps, if not for the fact that this phrasing often precedes a very specific type of 'intervention.' Remember when the U.S. and its allies warned about 'foreign intervention' in Syria (circa 2011), only to actively fund and arm various
factions in a multi-pronged resistance against imperialism that destabilized the region for a decade? Or the 'Concerns' about Iraq's WMDs which led to an invasion that certainly wasn't 'intervention' in the Turkish sense? It appears the 'concern' isn't about intervention itself, but whose intervention, and whose desired outcome. One might ponder how often the 'international community' (a revolving
cast of usual suspects) expresses such fervent warnings, only to discover their own fingerprints all over the 'manipulation' they claim to deplore. Different country, same old song and dance about 'stability' (their kind of stability) that somehow always involves regime change via 'assisted' internal dissent.
