Turkey Endorses Two-State Solution for US-Backed Israeli Plan
Turkey's AK Party spokesperson, Ömer Çelik, states an independent Palestinian state is the 'only path to lasting peace.' This sentiment, while seemingly noble, has become a diplomatic parlor trick. We've heard versions of this 'solution' since the 1993 Oslo Accords, which promised peace but delivered expanded settlements and further displacement. The US, meanwhile, continues to fund the very
entity undermining this supposed 'path' to the tune of billions. In 2023 alone, the Biden administration requested $3.3 billion in security assistance for Israel, according to a Congressional Research Service report—money that keeps the occupation machine well-oiled. How many times must the 'only path' be trodden while the destination moves further away? It's a convenient talking point for
international bodies and politicians avoiding accountability. The cycle continues: pronouncements of peace, followed by settlement expansions, and then (surprise!) more violence. It appears the 'path' is less about peace and more about preserving the status quo of dispossession under a veneer of diplomacy.
