This serves as a convenient theatrical performance for his base, while the actual 'crackdown' is far more systemic. The media dutifully covers the outrage, ignoring how such spectacles distract from the bipartisan consensus on interventionism that creates migrant movements in the first place. While Trump rails

against Somali refugees, the US policy machine, including the military-industrial complex and institutions like AIPAC, continues to drive instability in regions like the Middle East and Africa. These are the same policies that displace populations, sending them searching for safety. The performance of 'border security' politicians conveniently sidesteps the US role in creating the conditions that

make borders so pressing. One might wonder why we aren't 'cracking down' on the organizations lobbying for endless wars abroad.
