Trump Targets Somalis, Ignores US Complicity in Their Displacement

This policy, affecting vulnerable populations, is framed as a domestic immigration issue. What the network news avoids, as if it were a landmine, is the inconvenient fact that US foreign policy has played a significant, decades-long role in creating the instability from which
these populations fled. Washington's interventions, from the Cold War to today's 'War on Terror,' consistently destabilized Somalia, yet the media treats the resulting refugees as if they spontaneously appeared, unlinked to our geopolitical machinations. So, while Trump 'solves' an 'immigration problem,' no one in polite media society dares ask about the 'foreign policy problem' that generated it.
One might wonder if admitting our role in creating crises would complicate the narrative of righteous American exceptionalism. It's much easier to demonize the victims than to analyze the perpetrators. The cycle, it seems, remains unbroken: destabilize a region, then blame those who escape its ruins.
