Al Jazeera dutifully reports on Trump's proposed $12 billion package to 'aid farmers' struggling under his own administration's tariff policies. The story presents this as a response to 'reduced purchases and increased prices.' What goes unmentioned, of course, is that these 'reduced purchases' and 'increased prices' were direct, foreseeable consequences of the tariffs Trump himself imposed,
particularly on China. It's the economic equivalent of punching someone in the face, then offering a band-aid—paid for by their own wallet. This isn't aid; it's a retroactive bailout for a self-sabotaged economy, rebranded as executive generosity. The cost of this 'aid' amounts to nearly two months of current U.S. military aid to Ukraine, for example. One might conclude that 'making America great
again' involved charging American taxpayers for the privilege of fixing problems the previous administration created. How many other industries would love a federal check after incurring self-imposed losses?
