This statement appears to gloss over roughly 13 years of US foreign policy, countless sanctions, and literal military intervention aimed at removing Bashar al-Assad from power. The 'new leadership' is, of course, the same Assad regime, having survived a US-backed insurgency that flooded the region with weapons and
destabilized it for years. Meanwhile, the very same 'experts' who once decried Assad as illegitimate are now carefully silent, awaiting their next official talking points. One might wonder if this sudden 'satisfaction' is less about genuine change and more about strategic maneuvering.
