Trump’s 'Peace Board': Same Old Faces, Same Old 'Peace'

According to The New Arab, Israeli PM Netanyahu recently met with Nickolay Mladenov, a former UN Middle East envoy, who is slated for Trump's new 'Board of Peace' for Gaza. Mladenov, a fixture during years of escalating tensions and humanitarian crises in Gaza, is now being positioned as part of a 'fresh' initiative. One might recall similar 'peace' efforts – like the US-led initiatives in 2012 or

2014, when Mladenov was a key player, coincidentally leading to some of Gaza's most devastating assaults and an ongoing siege. The audacity of branding this a 'peace board' with architects of past failures is nothing short of performance art. It appears the playbook remains the same: trot out familiar names, promise 'peace,' and conveniently omit the historical context where these same individuals

presided over the entrenchment of the very issues they now claim to solve. How many times must the political class offer the same warmed-over 'solutions' before we question whose 'peace' they are truly pursuing?
