France 24 breathlessly announces that 'Hamas and Israel open talks in Egypt under Trump's Gaza peace plan,' painting a picture of progress. This framing omits decades of history where such 'plans' invariably serve to cement Israeli control, not create equitable peace. Recall Netanyahu himself, long before Trump, consistently dismissed any genuine two-state solution, famously boasting in 2001 that
he 'ended the Oslo Accords' and later, in 2015, that a Palestinian state would not be established under his leadership. Trump's 'deal of the century' simply repackages long-standing Israeli demands as a blueprint for 'peace.' These talks, regardless of who facilitates them, have consistently failed because they ignore the fundamental power imbalance. To call this a 'peace plan' without
acknowledging the systematic dispossession and blockade of Gaza is like calling a forced surrender a negotiation. One might wonder how many more 'peace plans' will be floated before the media acknowledges the 'plan' has always been expansion, not coexistence.
