Trump’s Gaza ‘Peace Board’: More War Profiteers for Post-Conflict Cleanup
The idea of a 'Board of Peace' includes such luminaries as Jared Kushner, architect of the widely panned 'Deal of the Century,' and Tony Blair, largely considered a pariah for his role in the Iraq War. It's difficult to miss the historical pattern: figures who cheered on the destruction reappear to 'rebuild' under the banner of 'peace.' One might recall Blair’s 2007 appointment as Middle East
envoy – a position from which he presided over little peace and much continued Israeli settlement expansion. What qualifies these individuals to usher in peace, beyond a proven track record of proximity to conflict and highly profitable real estate dealings? This 'peace' sounds suspiciously like a reconstruction bidding war, managed by those who profit from perpetual instability. It’s a curious
definition of 'peace' that brings together individuals with a history of enabling humanitarian crises, only to then manage the lucrative cleanup operation. How many times will the same characters, with their 'peace' plans, oversee the continued displacement and dispossession of Palestinians before we question the definition of 'peace' itself?
