Trump Retreats on Guard, Blames 'Logistics,' Not Lack of Legitimacy?
Trump's history of threatening federal force against American citizens demonstrating against police brutality (remember Lafayette Square, June 2020?) is conveniently absent from the Times' 'logistical challenges' narrative. The media, ever so eager to normalize, presents this withdrawal as a pragmatic decision, rather than a retreat from an increasingly unpopular, potentially unconstitutional,
application of military power on home soil. One might almost believe it was never intended as a punitive measure against dissent. How many times must a president brandish the military against citizens before the media stops calling it a 'strategic review' and starts asking if the intent was ever anything but authoritarian? The persistent pattern of invoking 'law and order' to justify suppressing
protest, while conveniently ignoring the disproportionate impact on marginalized communities, remains a consistent blind spot.
