Trump Resurrects 'Human Rights' Talk for Golf Buddy, Not Khashoggi
The optics of prioritizing a golf buddy and a football star while welcoming a leader implicated by the CIA in the brutal murder of a US-based journalist (Jamal Khashoggi, Washington Post staff writer, 2018) is, shall we say, 'rich.' It appears some dictators are more 'friendly' than others, especially when they control an ocean of oil and a sovereign wealth fund happy to invest in US ventures.
Remember when Candidate Trump promised to make Saudi Arabia 'pay a price' for Khashoggi's killing? Apparently, that price is a photo op and a handshake. The mainstream media kindly reminds us of the murder but rarely interrogates the profound hypocrisy of Washington's revolving door with regimes it supposedly condemns. One might wonder whose 'values' are truly being upheld here.
